Hugo is a static blog generator. This makes it possible to maintain a site without the need for php and a database server. The blog articles are written in a text file. Pages are then generated, and the resulting files can be uploaded. This way, the blog is only updated when there is new content. Maintenance work is reduced by avoiding updates of web CMS like wordpress. Of course, there would be less options availables for customization, but what is important in the case of a personnal web site is the content itself. And not really the way it is presented. I guess security risks are also lower since what exist online is only a few set of html documents without any processing capabilities. And also, backup is easier too given that all original documents are text, everything will fit nicely in git. Cool!
